The items, read from the perspective that if it were the US spooks doing mischief they'd want from the start plausible deniability and a patsy, make the story even more interesting. Blow the whistle if discovered, point elsewhere, and bring a big manufacturing segment out of China and back onto US soil. Cut the number of suppliers, manipulate supply and demand, steer profits around with insider trader chances possible too. If having a patsy lined up, would you not want a trusted channel to tell your story, your way, if/when the fan loads up?
Of course there is Mossad, said to be among the most skilled in humint. Without humint how do board designs become different from original vanilla ones? By magic?
