PiPress carrying an AP item - Generally, Joe Manchin is far from a Crabgrass favorite, but even a blind pig sometimes can sniff out a truffle.

One of the more terse but fair summaries of who Donald J. Trump is and how he chooses to behave

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, days removed from announcing he won’t seek reelection, said Wednesday that if the nation’s voters give former President Donald Trump another term in the White House, “he will destroy democracy in America.”

[...] Manchin said it would be “dangerous” to give Trump another term.

You can’t have this visceral hatred spewing out of every time you give a speech, denigrating Americans,” he said. “And the only good American is the one that likes you and supports you; the only fair election is the one you win; the only laws pertain to everybody but you.”

Trump being the asshole he's always been, reportedly took the bait, and proved Manchin correct - about denigrating Americans, Manchin specifically.

[...] “Because I Endorsed Big Jim Justice of West Virginia for the U.S. Senate, and he has taken a commanding lead, Democrat Joe Manchin has decided not to seek re-election. Looking good for Big Jim!” the former president said on his Truth Social internet site.

Biden has no such problems, (while admittedly having some problems of his own). Still, in a contest of Trump v. Biden, Joe is not an existential threat to everybody, nor the bane of  thinking populist - progressives who Trump would figuratively wish to plow under into unmarked graves that he could piss upon. Especially so for non-white populist - progressives as well as ones who dare to tell the world how great a menace Trump actually is.

Indeed, when you have Joe Manchin telling the world that truth, you know it is a true characterization, if viscerally reaching that far into right field.

If Joe Manchin cannot stand the Donald, look with intense skepticism while judging those who seem to tolerate the extremeness of Trump's persona-Gestalt (even liking it?).

___________UPDATE___________

Trump's situation is in part that father Fred Trump was a wealthy train wreck of a human and a vampire landlord who favored Donald over the elder son because Donald inherited Fred's mean shiftiness and resolution - where Fred's vast apartment holding were not the gilded ostentatious stuff son Donald has pursued:

After graduating from Wharton in 1968, Trump spent time with his father. He went door-to-door collecting rents, recalling how he would stand to the side of the door frame in case the tenant attacked.

Learn to dodge and feint? Stand to the side, Fred taught, not directly in front in case shots were fired through the door? Father knows best? The other mentoring of Donald to become "The Donald" was from Roy Cohn, who before his death was disbarred as Wapo reported:

The decision, part of a four-year battle between Cohn and the New York legal establishment, upheld a judicial disciplinary panel's charges of "dishonesty, fraud, deceit and misrepresentation."

It went beyond the panel's recommendation in finding that Cohn had entered the Florida hospital room of dying multimillionaire Lewis Rosenstiel, founder of the Schenley Distillers empire, while Rosenstiel, 84, was senile, semicomatose and drugged in December 1975. Rosenstiel died 6 1/2 weeks later.

Cohn held Rosenstiel's hand to sign a document naming Cohn a co-executor of Rosenstiel's will after falsely telling him that the document dealt with his divorce, the court found.

According to the 49-page decision, Cohn refused to repay a $100,000 loan from a client and lied about it in court; violated an escrow order, allowing dissipation of a corporation's assets in a securities-fraud case, and concealed pending disciplinary proceedings on an admission application to the District of Columbia Bar.

"For an attorney practicing for nearly 40 years in this state, such misconduct is inexcusable, notwithstanding an impressive array of character witnesses who testified in mitigation," the court found.

However, in interviews last year, Cohn called his accusers "left-wingers," "deadbeats" and "a bunch of yo-yos just out to smear me up." The disbarment action, he said, was "a broad ideological question . . . . What McCarthy was accused of practicing is actually being practiced against me."

[...] Cohn contended that his law firm, not he, handled the escrow account, that the $100,000 loan was an advance on legal fees and that the misconduct charges were not "formal" and therefore need not be reported to the D.C. bar.

Blame shifting? Claims against Roy - you can reread it - were somebody else's fault, not his. Does that sound Donaldish? Or what? Leftists out to get Roy, unfairly?

Never admit.

So, Fred, Roy and Donald. What else matters? LIfelong manipulator grifters, with connections. Yet, now with a bastion of voting losers, as in 2016, Donald could win in 2024. Fate is a comedian. A trickster beyond measure, like Trump.

The MAGA true meaning? Mendacious Aryan Governing Agenda? Something like that. Where Trump denial over losing an election fueled an all too receptive mob of angry white people to storm Congress, not over the influence of money among Congress critters or some other legitimate reason, but because Donald had a hard on over Biden's lesser evil win in the election via a voter majority's strong disdain toward the greater evil. He could not admit a majority of voters despised him. They still do. They need to turn out in the 2024 election.
