Basing a decision on sunk cost, and not the current promise of a venture, is unsound business.

Link. Commuter rail. A big money sinkhole. Are they contractually obligated into the future, or can they pull the plug sooner than millions more later?

FURTHER: Met Council in the news. Minnesota Reformer. Welfare for planners.

FURTHER: From Feb of this year:

Dibble this week introduced a bill to transfer light rail construction management from the Met Council to the state Department of Transportation.

It appears the Dibble bill stalled. MnDOT knows what they are doing.

FURTHER: Has competence anything to do with Met Council problems? Did competence matter when Northstar was packaged and sold? How is accountability measured and enforced? How is the quality of foresight assured? Is it? Is failure tolerated and kept on payroll, or fired?
