Candidate Forum - March 6 at 7:00 p.m. - City of Ramsey's Special General Election
Meet the Candidates at a Forum on March 6 at 7:00 pm - The League of Women Voters ABC will conduct a candidate forum with the two candidates running for Councilmember At-Large. It will be held in the Council Chambers at Ramsey City Hall. Candidates will respond to prepared questions from forum organizers and written questions from forum attendees. The forum will be taped by QCTV and will be available on demand on QCTV's website.

Road upkeep: Theis spoke favorably about use of a franchise fee in Ramsey. Riley mentioned it, without voicing an opinion.
Neither spoke in favor of raising taxes. Riley in opening mentioned a need for more shops and restaurants, a promise unfilled since Kurak days, around the year 2000 more or less, when Town Center was a cornfield and the promise was phrased, "shoppes and restaurants." Both favored wetland preservation. Construction subsidies were not favored by Theis, Riley waffled, Jim Deal's apartment and Deal himself were not specifically mentioned by either. To what extent was the Deal Apartment building subsidized? Riley was on council when it was proposed, evolved, and ultimately built. Austerity was discussed, neither had a sound answer on city budget containment detail. Theis acknowledged Riley's voting record on spending containment. Homelessness was discussed, Riley spoke of privatization of the problem being boosted and assisted. Theis stated nobody should be homeless, also mentioning privatization, but neither said the City owes residents spending that way. Highway 10 traffic was noted by both as being a problem. Neither had a good answer - spending needed, neither saying you have to raise more money if intending to spend more. Strange. Highway 47 no answer at present. Growth in Town Center? Riley wants it "built out" "market driven services expansion" mentioned by Riley, Theis seemed to agree housing lept ahead of amenities for the new rooftop folks and the longer tenured residents. Nobody said money this, or money that. Magic won't do jack, but neither had detailed novel thought. A final question - biggest nonpolitical interest(s) - Riley, scouting mentioned - Theis mentioned family closeness, reading, and scouting background. Closing statements. No question about net neutrality and/or bandwidth needs for the remainder of century. Riley noted a need/hope for more citizen involvement. THESE ARE PERSONAL REACTIONS. VIEW IT YOURSELF AND TRUST YOUR OPINIONS. I HAVE ALREADY VOTED, YOU HAVE YET TO, SO WATCH THE THING.
FURTHER: Neither candidate mentioned the Lunch Box in Deal's building diagonally across from city hall closing, nor was it mentioned that Riostone at the Sunfish/Hwy 10 strip is the best food in town but without a liquor license, whereas Acapulco has a liquor license but very mediocre food. Culvers and McDonalds along Hwy.10 are in Anoka. Elk River has a good Mexican restaurant in the strip of shops east of the post office, and a Sammy's. Said another way, Ramsey remains a restaurant desert, and one decent place closed despite the costly city hall having been foisted upon us as a catalyst for magic. Darren Lazan had catalyst talk too, and since Landform's being ousted it has been refreshing that nobody is saying "catalyst" anymore. Heidi Nelson moved on and has prospered. Why is a super-colossal mystery to me. I am unaware of who now is living in Thomaswood.
