Unions have often hurt themselves greatly by championing mediocre DFL candidates and pushing them upon progressives, who wanted better, and fewer career politicians prone to use of the revolving door. Also, their attention to issues such as "card check" over a more inclusive worker-rights focus, has made them appear narrow and insensitive to other laborers not yet unionized. Finally, union leadership, the bosses, have been unevenly effective in delivering rank and file voting in line with leadership choices. Now their key rights are at stake, and we can hope, despite deficiencies such as listed above that the ALEC-motivated GOP attack against working men and women in Minnesota fails.
