Norm Coleman abandons NRSC leadership chase, endorsing John Cornyn of Texas.

In this post's "update" at the end, I raised speculation independently raised by Huffington Post, TPM, and Dave Mindemin, of mnpACT!, to the effect that the ranking minority member of the Senate Ethics panel is the same John Cornyn as Coleman deferred to while endorsing Cornyn's leadership surge.

Is this GOP bacscratching? No NRSC contest, no probe; a GOP quid pro quo?

Or worse, a cosmetic "probe" prearranged to find no evil? Managed mendacity?

It might be harder, since there are Democratic monkeys on the Ethics panel.
