Again, I applaud the mayor's stance, and others on council who may be like-minded, on not wanting to hire a replacement but to at least try going to year's end with only a single top administrator, Kurt Ulrich.

Moving on without hiring any deputy replacement is the right choice, and one that can be made now via attrition. Attrition does not force any untoward choosing among those on staff for forced retrenchment.

Nelson's leaving is a win-win situation all around.
