"I do not support defunding the police. I do support reforming our criminal justice system. There is a lot of misinformation being sent into our community. I work as a prosecutor, so I think the facts are important. Public safety isn’t just a priority for me, it is my profession. I do support reforming our criminal justice system because everyone deserves to be safe in our community. I do not support defunding the police. I value the hard and important work law enforcement does. Indeed, I recently passed a bill to provide Anoka County with additional funding to hire corrections officers with mental health expertise."

The headline for this post is from the campaign site of Zach Stephenson

Zach is a DFL legislative candidate, and currently a representative in the legislature. His "About" page reveals:

St. Rep. Zack Stephenson is a prosecutor, father of two, and lifelong resident of the northern suburbs of Minneapolis. Zack grew up in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 2002. He earned a degree in Public Policy Analysis in 2006 from Knox College and a law degree from the University of Chicago School of Law in 2010. When the Legislature is not in session, he now works as an Assistant Hennepin County Attorney, where he handles criminal cases, and lives in Coon Rapids with his wife, Austin, and their two daughters, Nora (7) and Elsa (5).

Zach and his opponent, John Heinrich, each currently are in the Minnesota House.

Redistricting has put both now into the same district. Zach's Republican opponent's Homepage image:

Zach's opponent's about page begins:

Married to Jessica for 16 years; three children

- Grew up in Coon Rapids; lives in Anoka; extended family resides in Anoka and Ramsey

- Graduated from Meadow Creek Christian School, 1998

- US Marine Corps Veteran; served in the Military Police, 4th Marine Division 1999-2007

- Served honorably in Iraq 2003-2004

Has worked in the Asphalt/Concrete industry and business development for over 20 years; currently serves as Vice President of a local company

- Takes great interest in current events, local/national politics, discussing core values and free market ideals

- Family attends EagleBrook Church in Anoka

Zach has the better education, with the Univ. of Chicago being an exceptional nationally recognized University, with an outstanding Law School, while Heinrich lists himself as only a high school graduate.

Is "Crime" your issue? Zach is not merely supportive of criminal law enforcement, he is in it as his prosecutorial career shows, when not excused for the legislature when it is in session.

While the next link is without a source link on its second claim, it links to a source for the first. It says what it says,

Many Republican lawmakers and candidates have since touted their support of law enforcement to boost their popularity among voters, and the Minnesota GOP is no different.

But the same people still love to bash cops and the military online.

Republican Rep. John Heinrich of District 35A used his experience as a military police officer in the U.S. Marine Corps to promote his campaign for Minnesota’s House of Representatives, which he is running for again in November. That didn’t stop him from posting about the “gay military” on Facebook.

“I would like the record to show that I served prior to homo military. thanks all !” Heinrich posted the day after “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” ― a measure that banned gay and lesbian service members ― was repealed.

Aaron Henning, a Republican candidate for House District 14B in the Minnesota House this November, advocates for “safe communities” on his website: “I will be a proud supporter of our law enforcement and first responders, and make sure they have the resources necessary to keep Central Minnesota families safe.

He also took to Facebook multiple times in 2012 to complain about the cops who ate at the restaurant he ran, saying in December 2012 it “smells like bacon.”

Those who value education would see Stephenson as ahead. Those that value military service above all else might see Heinrich ahead. Were I in the district, no doubt, my already cast ballot would have been for Stephenson. However, I am not in that district, although I view it as very important, with it being adjacent to the district in which I live.

ALL THAT IS A PRELUDE. IN THIS INSTANCE VOTERS CAN FULLY INFORM THEMSELVES BY LOOKING AT EACH CANDIDATE'S LEGISLATIVE RECORD IN JUDGING WHO IS BEST.

Stephenson.

Heinrich.

Voters in that district who are uncertain or undecided would be grossly negligent if voting before taking full advantage of the information the State posts about its legislators' history, bills sponsored, chief sponsor, etc.
