Completing a traffic study is a key step to complete before the Anoka-Hennepin School District can break ground on a second elementary school in Ramsey.
Community Development Director Tim Gladhill told the Ramsey Planning Commission Jan. 4 that all city approvals would be contingent on completion of a traffic study, which Anoka County and the city of Ramsey would review. The city required the school district to do this traffic study, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.
The Anoka-Hennepin School District purchased 34 acres of farmland from two property owners on the east side of Nowthen Boulevard. With 170th Avenue planned as the main access into the school, Gladhill anticipates a new traffic signal would be installed at the intersection with Nowthen Boulevard.
Two-thirds of the Anoka-Hennepin residents who voted last November approved a $249 million referendum that allows the district to construct two K-5 elementary schools in Ramsey and Blaine and to make improvements at other schools in the district.
