One step at a time. The path is correct. The goal is nearer.

And the image fits Strib New Year's Day reporting about one of Gov. Dayton's first scheduled official substantive and ceremonial acts, making things clear:

Dayton to sign Medicaid executive order
Associated Press Update: January 1, 2011 - 10:39 AM

Dayton will be sworn in Monday. On Tuesday he plans to sign the order in the governor's reception room at the state Capitol. The public is invited to attend.

A news release from the Democratic governor-elect says expanding the state's Medicaid program will provide new or improved health care coverage to over 95,000 Minnesotans and retain 20,000 health care-related jobs.

He is coming in with a broom, and sweeping intentional callousness out the door and not "under any rug" of indifference or delay. Delay lasted years. As a policy choice.

BRAVO, Senator-Governor-humanitarian Dayton.

What's not to like about this long-overdue step?
