Is it going to be that kind of an election in Anoka County, in the County Board district where I live.?

 Matt Look posts online -

Kevin Landry posts online -

Matt, where are these degrees from, what university? Kevin, your family is not really the issue; the issue is why you believe you are the better candidate.

Matt, is your day job still selling Republican signage and other printing? Kevin, what is your day job?

Neither candidate a veteran?

Matt, you are anti-choice if you say so. Are you certain Kevin is pro-choice?

-------------------

Matt and Kevin, we look forward to seeing each of you at a League of Women Voters candidate forum. That is where you will be tested one against the other at a live give-and-take forum. Where we can see differences, in thought and demeanor. Neither of you should duck the opportunity. Both - have the courage and self confidence to show up. If either of you ducks it, hopefully the other will be allowed a chance to speak, if having taken the time to be there. Neither of you should expect to kill the contest by skipping out. If "too busy" to make a live forum, then perhaps too busy to hold the job.

---------------

Last election it was two Republicans running against one another with each having a record of local political office holding. No favorite was noted here.

This time it looks to be more of a choice.

___________UPDATE_________

I hate Facebook. Most of Kevin Landry's content is on Facebook. I never use that miserable site unless there is no other option. I used it grudgingly.

Landry says he is a minister. That answers for now the "day job" question.

From grudgingly reading Facebook I see that Landry supports citizen input at County Board meetings. I see that he is strongly opposed to voter suppression.

These are positions with which I agree. Unless Landry is in error, Matt Look supports voter ID and voted against citizen input at Board meetings.

Landry has put himself on record as supporting inclusion of all people, without bigotry against the LGBT+ community or Muslims. Presumably neither candidate would want to see one child bullied by other children at a school or county park, (and this is not a school board contest anyway).

Landry asserts a strong Christianity, in the sense of Sermon on the Mount and Golden Rule, turning the other cheek, etc. He appears to not be of the Christian Nationalist outlook. I can respect such an inclusive faith as opposed to Christofascism, which I regard as reckless, dangerous and doomed.

Look has held the seat for years, so we all know more of him than Landry, who had to be researched on Facebook. Accordingly, this UPDATE speaks more of Landry than the one we know.

.......................................

This Board seat contest will stand as between two professed "strongly oriented Christian" candidates. Let's hope it does not degenerate into a pissing match that way.

PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS A CONTEST FOR A SECULAR INSTITUTIONAL GOVERNING SEAT, AND NOT OVER WHO IS MORE CHRISTIAN THAN THE OTHER, BY WHOEVER'S BENT OR SENSIBLE DEFINITIONS AND MINDSET.

SINKING TO THAT KIND OF POSTURING WOULD CHEAPEN THE OFFICE AND IF IT SINKS TO THAT THE CHOICE WOULD HAVE TO BE WHO IS LESS EGREGIOUS, LESS SANCTIMONIOUS, AND THE MORE GENUINE AS A HUMAN BEING, WITH BEST JUDGMENT EXPRESSED FOR THE ROLE OF GOVERNING AT A NONPARTISAN ISSUE-FOCUSED LEVEL.

No hitting below the belt.

It is hoped both Landry and Look take the high road, with a focus on the local issues that affect County residents, and do not diverge into judging each other's life styles and personal histories.

Look does have a voting record on Board actions, so Landry attacking it and Look defending it would be both fair and helpful to voters.

While not pretending to be Christian myself, I believe there nonetheless is a secular good sense to the notion that nobody should throw the first stone - nor following stones. A nasty stone-throwing match between Look and Landry would stink. Each, by age, is an adult.

BOTTOM LINE: Once the two take a seat at a mutual forum where each can speak his mind, we will be able to judge both, as to demeanor, and ideas.
